Ben Stein's "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" is a movie about the freedom of speech. It documents the efforts of a devotedly secular academic hierarchy to silence an discussion of Intelligent Design. It is funny. It is though provoking. And it is one of the most hated films of recent times. Come and find out why.

In today’s evolving world, some people are often heard saying that marriage is too difficult, or that the sanctity of marriage has been destroyed. Don’t tell that to television and movie star Kirk Cameron, who brings the Love Worth Fighting For: Marriage Event to Fairhaven Church in Centerville on Friday, June 6 at 7 p.m.

For the last four years, Cameron, and musical guest Warren Barfield, have been spreading their passion and faith in the power of marriage at churches and complexes throughout the country by sharing their personal experiences and using the tools of music and humor to help eager couples who are either married or preparing to be.

“Marriage is the foundation upon which you build a family, and if families fall apart, then our churches, our communities and ultimately our whole nation crumbles,” Cameron says. “We’re excited to share this event with the people of Centerville and know that it will bring both hope and healing.”

The Love Worth Fighting For tour, sponsored by Feed Your Faith, is in its fifth year and has touched more than 200,000 attendees since its inception. The 2014 tour will be making more than 30 stops across the country including events in Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, California, Ohio, Missouri, Arkansas, Indiana, Florida, and Alabama, among others.

According to conference organizers, tickets are currently still available for the Centerville event, but if past shows are any indication, it could quickly sell out. Tickets range from $20 to $35 each and are available as reserved seats or general admission for singles, couples and groups of 10 or more.

For more information about Feed Your Faith’s Love Worth Fighting For tour featuring Cameron and Barfield, or to order tickets, contact Fairhaven Church directly at
937-434-8627, www.myhaven.org or visit www.loveworthfightingfor.com. Fairhaven is located at 637 E Whipp Rd., Centerville, OH 45459.

Dayton will host the 20th annual World Solar Splash competition on June 11-15 at Eastwood Park. The event will bring universities, including Cedarville University and the University of Dayton, from throughout the world to participate in an on-the-water competition.
Dr. Tim Dewhurst, senior professor of mechanical engineering and faculty advisor for Cedarville’s solar boat team, is also planning to have elementary and middle school students at the event. He expects to introduce a Junior Solar Splash event this year, a model solar boat competition for elementary and middle school students. He said, “I hope to run this as a pilot project with a few schools this year and have the races during Solar Splash at Eastwood Park.”
The event will test the engineering design and production skills through a technical inspection and a series of on-the-water competitions. Each team is required to produce, either by building, buying, or receiving parts, a piloted boat up to 6 meters in length powered by 480 Watts of solar power with 1 kW-hr of stored energy in batteries.
During the competition teams battle for the title of Collegiate World Champion by gathering points based on their performance during a qualifier, high-speed sprint race, long endurance race, and slalom event. In addition to the on-the-water races, judges review a technical report- submitted by each team. Last year, Cedarville turned in the fastest slalom time in competition history. Dewhurst said that although the boats are run by solar power and only reach speeds up to about 30 mph, watching can get pretty exciting. “Especially, if one of those boats is yours and you are just watching it inch along past the others,” Dewhurst said.” It gets tense.”

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a national event designed to help raise awareness about sexual violence. Each year, men, women and their families join Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® to benefit Gracehaven. The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® Event is a fun and quirky, but meaningful opportunity to raise awareness in the community about child sex trafficking.
Gracehaven realized there was a demand for services for victims of commercial sexual exploitation. We began our organization to provide a residential group home for girls under the age of 18 who are survivors, to raise awareness, to train social service providers, and to provide outreach and comprehensive case management to victims.

Gracehaven is a proud member of the Central Ohio Rescue and Restore Coalition, The Ohio Attorney General’s Study Commission on Human Trafficking and the Ohio Network of Anti Human Trafficking Coalitions.

Gracehaven will have three Walk A Mile in Her Shoes walks this year in the Columbus area - for Mother's Day, for Father's Day and a Back-to-School Walk.
First You Walk the Walk

There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men and women to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes (encouraged, but optional!) It is a unique opportunity to open the door on the discussion of child sex trafficking that happens right here in Central Ohio.
Then You Talk the Talk

It is critical to bring child sex trafficking into the light, but not very easy to do. People unfamiliar with child sex trafficking don't want to believe it exists. This is an ugly topic. How do you get people talking about this issue, so they can identify and prevent it from happening? And if it's already happened, how do you help guide them to recovery?

This year, Gracehaven will expand our 6th Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® by coordinating three walks to a total of 1,700 people throughout Central Ohio.

Mother's Day Walk - Register Now Saturday, May 10 (Mother’s Day weekend) at Grace Polaris Church. Registration at 8 AM; walk begins at 9 AM

Father's Day Walk - Register Now Saturday, June 14 (Father’s Day weekend) at Glacier Ridge Metro Park. Registration at 8 AM; walk begins at 9 AM

Back-to-School Walk - Coming Soon Saturday, September 20 at Wolfe Park in Bexley. Registration at 8 AM; walk begins at 9 AM
