October 29, 2014

The African Children’s Choir will perform at Cedarville University Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center.

The choir is part of the Music for Life Institute, an international organization that brings humanitarian aid to African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. The organization operates out of Canada, the UK, South Africa and China in addition to the United States.

Music for Life’s focus is educating Africa’s most vulnerable children, many of whom lost one or both parents from famine, war or disease.

“In these types of situations, we typically see the loss, the poverty, and the challenges these children face,” said Greg Dyson, Cedarville’s director of intercultural leadership. “This concert gives us the opportunity to highlight the beauty in the children.”

The choir will perform a variety of music, and Cedarville’s gospel choir, OneVoice, will join them for certain selections.

An offering will be collected at the end of the concert to help support Music for Life’s programs. Music for Life has created schools, community centers, and orphanages in many of the nations where they work. They also partner with existing schools and orphanages.

The choir recently performed for the Queen of England at her diamond jubilee, and has performed with artists Keith Urban, Mariah Carey, Michael W. Smith and Paul McCartney.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Hawk Nelson will be hitting the road with JJ Heller and Finding Favour this fall for the "Thank God For Something" tour. The tour will be running through October and November.

The title of the tour is taken from the title of Hawk Nelson's upcoming single, a song the band has already been playing live to enthusiastic audience response. The band is currently in the studio, working hard on their second album since former guitarist Jon Steingard stepped into the role of frontman following Jason Dunn's departure.

JJ Heller, the voice behind "What Love Really Means," will be serving as support for the tour alongside Gotee Records newcomers Finding Favour.

FINDING FAVOUR delivers songs that reflect the moving stories that inspire their music and showcase the band’s considerable talent and musical mission. In 2013, the band released their self-titled EP to much praise. Their latest single "Say Amen" was released in March and is impacting radio now.

Why Take Part?
Join Christians across America for I Stand Sunday on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 7:00 PM EST. Hosted by Family Research Council and other partners, speakers from across the nation will gather at Grace Community Church in Houston, Texas. Christians throughout the country will have an opportunity to take a stand this week to defend Houston pastors targeted by the city government. The event is I Stand Sunday, and First Baptist Church of Salem will be taking part.
The 90-minute event, which will be simulcast by First Baptist Church at 6 p.m. Sunday, comes after a lawsuit was filed against the City of Houston and, more specifically, city subpoenas were sent to five Houston pastors.
“As our culture has reached for ideas of fairness and tolerance there has been increasingly less tolerance toward people of faith,” said First Baptist Church Pastor Michael York. “In a little over a year we have moved from a redefinition of marriage to an abolition of gender. People of faith, not just Christians, but people of all faiths, are finding themselves labeled as intolerant and bigoted for holding positions that have been orthodox for thousands of years. What is alarming is that now the government is supporting these notions.”
The controversial subpoenas, part of the discovery process, are demanding that the Houston area pastors turn over sermons, emails, and other communications related to a petition drive to overturn an ordinance providing special rights for homosexuals, lesbians and transgendered people.
Many citizens opposed the ordinance and responded with a petition drive. Houston city government tossed out the signatures needed for the ballot initiative and citizens responded by suing the city. The city then responded with the subpoenas, drawing allegations it was trampling First Amendment rights and religious liberty, and bullying the pastors for their beliefs.
