OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of Strong Tower Christian Media is to use communications technology in the proclamation of the Gospel, to lead the the lost to Jesus Christ and the Christian into a closer walk with Him. Strong Tower Christian Media currently operates two non-profit 50,000 watt Christian Radio Stations in Ohio serving a wide coverage area including the cities of: Dayton, Springfield, Cincinnati, and Columbus as well as parts of Norther Kentucky and Eastern Indiana.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE HUMBLE BEGINNINGS OF WFCJ…
When God first impressed on the hearts of men like Wilbur Powell, Vernon Wilson, Ray Emby and others that Dayton’s airwaves should have a Christian presence, none of them could have foreseen what He had in store for WFCJ. In fact, they never even planned for it to be an FM station at all!
When they envisioned the station and petitioned the Federal Communications Commission for a license, AM stations dominated the dial. It was only after being denied by the FCC that they re-applied and were granted an FM frequency to broadcast as the first Christian station in the Dayton area and the second in the entire state of Ohio.
One of the first announcers when the station went on the air on January 7, 1961 was a University of Dayton student named Clair Miller who would, after also being one of the first voices heard on Springfield’s Christian station WEEC later that year, return to WFCJ in May of 1980 to serve as the station’s General Manager for the next thirty years.
During that time, WFCJ and WEEC began to minister together more frequently. Eventually, the two stations agreed to formally come together as Strong Tower Christian Media in 2007 with WEEC General Manager Tracy Figley as president of the new corporation and Clair Miller as vice-president.
In recognition of WFCJ and WEEC each reaching 50 years of ministry, the National Religious Broadcasters organization honored both stations with the Milestone Award at their 2012 National Convention. Clair Miller (left) and Tracy Figley (at the podium) were on hand to accept.
Now, the station that began broadcasting in a building the size of a two-car garage over fifty years ago can be heard in Dayton, Cincinnati and Richmond, Indiana on the radio (both FM and HD) as well as worldwide on the Internet. Back in the late 1950s, the founders never could have dreamed of that…but God did!
Though the voices of on-air announcers, program teachers, and musical artists have changed over the years and the technology needed to get the message out has advanced from reel-to-reel tape machines to satellite dishes and computer systems, our mission has always been summed up in our name. We are WFCJ…Witnessing For Christ Jesus!
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you…plans to give you hope and a future”.
